The weekend is here, so it’s time create the stories that you will tell the rest of the work week. So here is a list of Hip Hop shows happening all around the state.
- Friday, September 12: Turnt Up!: A Rap Dance Party
For the past three years, Honey has played host to one of the craziest dance parties in the Twin Cities. With host Franz Diego of Illuminous 3, DJs Gabe Garcia and Willie Shu bring a 5 hour booty shaking mix to life. For $5, it’s like Hip Hop’s humble beginnings in the Bronx only now it’s really going to make you sweat and get ‘Turnt Up!’
- Friday, September 12: Maria Isa Valley of the Dolls Release Show
Maria Isa is back with a new album and she is celebrating it’s release tonight at the Dakota Jazz Club. Get prepared by checking out the singles “Sabotage” and “Maruca” and make your way downtown around 10:30pm. Joining her is her partner in Villa Rosa, Muja Messiah. The release show is ten bucks and hosted by Beasly.
- Friday, September 12: Sole & DJ Pain-1 with Moodie Black
Indie Hip Hop Legend and cofounder of Anticon records founder, Sole is returning to rock the Twin Cities with the platinum selling producer DJ Pain-1 to rock the Nomad World Pub. After releasing their new album, Death Drive, the two have continued to bring their brand of socio-political fury to large audiences. And with help from local noise rap favorite, Moodie Black, this is sure to be a nostalgic moment for Sole as he reintroduces the hustle of the Deep Purple Dynamics days for a new generation.
- Friday, September 12: Worldwide Discotheque
Clubhouse Jager in Minneapolis is going to be an eclectic affair this Friday evening for the Worldwide Discotheque Dance Night. Featuring the guest selector, Superbrush 427, it will a night of funky tunes spanning across the globe from West Africa, The Caribbean and South Africa. Plus the DJs will be spinning all vinyl records from 10pm till close, why not try something new?
- Saturday, September 13: 3rd Annual Electric Fetus Garage Sale and Fall Festival
With the brisk weather rolling through, the Electric Fetus in Minneapolis is going to be celebrating their house cleaning. There will be discounts on CDs, LPs, and DVDs, there will be free performances from many talented artists from noon until 5pm. Plus, it will feature Hellfyre Club wordsmith, Busdriver and Doomtree’s own Mike Mictlan performing new songs from their new projects. And don’t forget free stuff from Glam Dolls Donuts and Warner Bros Music Group.
- Saturday, September 13: 6th Annual Groundbreaker Battle//Hip Hop Festival & Breakin’ Competition
The nation’s largest breakdance battle competition is returning to Butler Square Parking lot next to The Cowles Center of Performing Arts in Minneapolis this Saturday, where crews will compete in tournament battles throughout the day. And with performances from Ill Chemistry, UpRock, DJ Los Boogie and countless fresh faces from noon until 8pm; come and check out one of the most exciting competitions of the year.
- Saturday, September 13: The Best F***ing Show Ever with P.O.S
It’s been close to two years since Rhymesayers/ Doomtree’s own P.O.S has performed a solo set, but Saturday will change that at what is being called “The Best F***ing Show Ever” in the Fine Line Music Café parking lot. And by recruiting some of his favorite artists today (Busdriver, Open Mike Eagle, Allan Kingdom, Le1f, SZA and ZuluZuluu), it could have a strong possibility to live up to the name’s lofty claims.
- Saturday, September 13: The Best F***ing Show Ever After Party
When P.O.S finishes up, he is going to getting down at First Avenue for an after party that is good enough to follow a show of that caliber. With performances from Dam Funk, Lazerbeak and plenty of special guests; this is sure to be a night of epic proportions.
- Sunday, September 14: TCSAX IV: Twin Cities Sneaker Art Xchange
Sneakers heads better get up before noon because Studiiyo 23 is holding their 4th annual Sneaker Art Xchange at The Cabooze from noon until 6pm. With a strong lists of DJs spinning all afternoon, everyone who appreciates good shoes, clothes, music and art will be in attendance to sell, trade, buy and lust everything they want. Only problem is trying to come up with enough money to get everything on your list.
- Sunday, September 14: Fall Jam Live
After TCSAX IV, The Cabooze will open their doors to some great Hip Hop with K.Camp rocking the Fall Jam. The ATLien will bringing the sounds of the new south to our northern stage with help from DJ Enferno, and the legendary MN Fats. If you need one last hurray before Monday, this is the best option you may receive.
