Ahead of the third installment of ZULUZULUU’s Icehouse residency, Greg Grease dropped AstralBeat Theories 3 EP. Sonically, the Theories EP soars in soul samples and magical synth lines but is grounded lyrically in the daily toil of Black Americans. In the second track “Everybody Cool” Grease declares “Everybody wanna be cool, why nobody wanna be free?” over sparse drums and solo piano. Greg teams up with MMYYKK and Franz Diego for the Southside slow jam “RiverLife.” As a whole EP gives vibes of togetherness and dismay for the current state of the United States and might be best summed up in “Frequencies” where guest vocalist MMYYKK sings “Stop waiting on the frequency to change.”
As 1/6 of ZULUZULUU’s, Greazy Greg handles most of the production on the EP with some assistance from ZULUZULUU members Trelly Mo, MMYYKK, and Proper-T. All the EPs artword has been by Michael Cina.
Make it out to Icehouse this Thursday for the ZULUZULUU residencey. Seriously, you don’t want to miss this. Details here.
