After 5 years since the release of Morning In America, Dreaming In Color, Minneapolis MC Brother Ali triumphantly returns to continue with his underlying message of love in “Own Light (What Hearts Are For).”
Reunited by his longtime partner in production, Ant, the legendary Rhymesayer weaves his warm wisdom over the dynamic guitar and sunny synths to expound upon the trans-formative inner light that inspires and animates the greatest qualities of humanity. Visualized by Dave Wilson, the good Brother put that same dazzling love on display throughout his lush corresponding video. Lead by the beautiful introduction by Dr. Umar Faruq Abd-Allah, the video finds Brother Ali reflecting by the breathtaking cliffs deep within the forests of the Pacific Northwest while offering a series of uplifting clips showcasing moments reaffirming hope and compassion in uncertain times.
“Own Light” also acts as the first glimpse from his upcoming album, All The Beauty In This Whole Life, releasing on Friday, May 5th. Enlisting the help from deM atlaS, Sa-Roc, Amir Sulaiman and Idris Phillips, Brother Ali aims to unite a “divided nation through the power of music” and remind the world of the unmistakable beauty that gives it life. Taken from the album’s Bandcamp, he explains:
“This entire album is based on the reality that beauty is the splendor of truth” says the Minneapolis MC. “Beauty in all of its forms is the outward manifestation of love and virtue. It soothes the soul and pulls it gently toward the truth it communicates. Every word and note of this album is intended to either reflect beauty, or expose the ugliness that blocks us from living lives of meaning.”
